Greenville, SC – Fire danger is rising quickly across South Carolina today, with dry air and low humidity creating conditions that could allow fires to spread rapidly through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a Special Weather Statement remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday for the entire region. Minimum relative humidity values are expected to drop into the 15% to 25% range, while dry vegetation increases the risk for fast-moving fires.

The threat extends across the Upstate, including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and along the I-85 corridor. Even with lighter winds, the combination of dry fuels and low humidity can support rapid fire growth if ignition occurs.

Officials strongly discourage outdoor burning during this time. Residents should avoid using equipment that creates sparks, properly dispose of cigarettes, and remain alert for any signs of smoke.

Conditions are expected to improve later tonight as humidity levels recover, but elevated fire risk remains a concern until sunset. Additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
