Spartanburg, SC – The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Freeze Warning for much of the Upstate region, in effect from 8 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday, as clear skies and light winds allow temperatures to plummet overnight.
According to the NWS, sub-freezing temperatures between 26°F and 29°F are expected across portions of northeast Georgia, western North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina, including the cities of Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Gaffney, and Clemson.
The coldest air of the season will bring widespread frost and freeze conditions capable of killing crops, damaging outdoor vegetation, and freezing unprotected plumbing. Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, cover plants, and disconnect garden hoses before sunset.
Winds from the northwest will range from 10 to 14 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, creating wind chills in the low 20s. Tuesday will remain sunny but cool, with highs near 44°F, before temperatures gradually rise into the 60s by Wednesday and Thursday.
Officials also encourage residents to check on elderly neighbors and ensure space heaters are used safely and according to manufacturer guidelines.
