Charlotte, NC – Residents across the Piedmont and Upstate should prepare for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with storms capable of producing damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg warns that frequent lightning and torrential downpours may also impact travel and outdoor activities through tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest storms are expected late Saturday ahead of a passing cold front. While not every area will see severe weather, isolated cells could bring winds topping 50 mph and hail large enough to damage vehicles or crops.

Charlotte, Concord, Gastonia, and Rock Hill are among the metro areas most at risk during the evening commute and overnight hours. Localized flooding on low-lying roads remains possible where heavier downpours occur. Drivers are urged to use caution, avoid flooded intersections, and monitor conditions closely.

By Sunday, showers should taper off with improving conditions and highs near 78 degrees. Clearer skies are expected to dominate early next week, bringing more stable weather through Wednesday.

Severe weather alerts remain in effect through tonight, with additional updates possible if storm activity intensifies.
