Watertown, NY – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Thursday afternoon for much of Northern and Central New York, where snow totals have already reached 7 to 14 inches in some areas and additional accumulations are expected early this morning.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Buffalo, Binghamton, and Albany, the warning covers Oneida, Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis, Hamilton, Herkimer, and Northern Fulton Counties. Up to 3 more inches of snow may fall before the storm exits by early afternoon, with wind gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing and drifting snow.
Officials warn that roads across the Tug Hill Plateau, Adirondack foothills, and surrounding valleys are snow-covered and slippery, making for hazardous travel during the Thursday morning commute. Visibility may be reduced in open areas due to gusty winds.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses where ice may form. Those who must travel are advised to carry a flashlight, food, and water in case of emergency delays.
The storm is expected to taper off by midday, leaving behind several inches of new snow accumulation and continued blowing snow through the afternoon.
