Albany, NY – After a very cold start to the week across eastern New York and western New England, conditions will shift toward a more active pattern by midweek, with a strong chance of rain and snow returning Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, temperatures today and Tuesday will remain well below normal, with highs only in the lower to mid-20s in areas such as Glens Falls, Herkimer, and Pittsfield. Overnight lows tonight will dip into the single digits for much of the region, and locations like Piseco may fall to around –6°F early Tuesday.
Clouds increase Tuesday ahead of the next system. By Wednesday, an approaching disturbance will bring an 80–90% chance of rain and snow, with a brief warmup pushing daytime highs into the upper 30s to around 40 for cities including Poughkeepsie, Saratoga Springs, and Bennington. A continued 50–75% chance of precipitation persists Wednesday night.
Snow or mixed precipitation may linger into early Thursday morning before tapering off. Skies gradually become partly sunny later in the day.
Another cold stretch is expected late week, with lows on Thursday night and Friday morning falling into the teens across most locations, and highs Friday only topping out in the upper 20s to lower 30s.
Residents should prepare for potentially slick travel Wednesday evening and early Thursday, especially in higher elevations where colder air will support more persistent snow.
