Albany, N.Y. –Drivers and residents across eastern New York, western Massachusetts, and northwestern Connecticut should brace for flash flooding from slow-moving thunderstorms expected to hit the region from noon Monday through late tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Flood Watch covers Greene, Columbia, Ulster, and Dutchess counties in New York, as well as Berkshire County, Mass., and Litchfield County, Conn., with warnings of heavy downpours capable of rapidly inundating low-lying roads and urban neighborhoods. The heaviest rainfall is forecast between 2 p.m. and midnight, especially along major routes like I-87, Route 9, and city streets in Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Pittsfield, and Torrington.

Urban and poor-drainage areas are at greatest risk, including basements, underpasses, and smaller creeks. Local emergency managers urge residents to avoid flooded roads, move vehicles to higher ground, and prepare for possible detours or water rescues. Slow-moving storms could repeatedly track over the same communities, raising the odds for flash flooding similar to past summer events.

The Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight, with additional advisories possible if rainfall persists into Tuesday. Stay tuned for updated alerts and heed any warnings from local officials.
