Watertown, NY – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through 1 p.m. Thursday for the Eastern Lake Ontario Region, where heavy snow will continue to fall across Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis Counties, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Forecasters expect total snow accumulations between 8 and 16 inches across the Tug Hill Plateau and the western Adirondack foothills, with 3 to 6 inches possible in surrounding lower elevations. The heaviest snow bands are expected to persist through Wednesday night, tapering off late Thursday morning.

The weather service warns that travel will be very difficult, with snow-covered roads and poor visibility making for dangerous driving conditions. The Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes are expected to be especially impacted as lake-effect snow intensifies.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and allow extra time if driving is unavoidable. Officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles and reporting snow totals through the National Weather Service’s website or social media channels.
