Watkins Glen, N.Y. – A frost advisory is in effect for Schuyler County from 12 a.m. until 8 a.m. Thursday as overnight temperatures dip into the mid-30s. Residents in Watkins Glen and surrounding communities are urged to protect outdoor plants before the cold settles in.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to fall quickly overnight, with frost forming in rural valleys and low-lying areas. Sensitive vegetation could be damaged or killed if not covered or brought indoors.

The advisory highlights the potential impact on late-season crops, gardens, and vineyards across the Finger Lakes. With harvest season underway, grape growers and farmers are especially encouraged to take preventive steps before midnight.

Drivers should also be alert to patchy frost on rural roads, particularly on bridges and shaded areas, during the early morning commute.

The frost threat is expected to ease by 8 a.m. Thursday as sunshine returns, but forecasters warn that similar chilly nights remain possible through the weekend.
