Rensselaer, N.Y. – A surge of warm, humid air will give way to strong evening showers and possible thunderstorms Tuesday night across the Capital Region, creating a wet and potentially slick commute for Rensselaer and nearby areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, rain is expected to begin late Tuesday afternoon and intensify into the night, with nearly 100% chances of precipitation. Localized downpours could lead to minor ponding on roads, especially along I-90 and Route 9. Winds will shift from the south to northwest overnight, ushering in cooler, drier air.

By Wednesday, scattered showers may linger through midday before skies begin to clear. Highs will drop into the upper 60s with gusty northwest winds between 10 and 13 mph. The drier trend continues into Thursday, though clear skies and light winds could set up patchy frost in outlying valleys Thursday night.

Residents are encouraged to check windshield wipers, avoid driving through standing water, and prepare for a sharp temperature drop midweek. More advisories may be issued if frost conditions develop later in the week.
