Albany, New York – Road conditions across eastern New York and nearby New England could turn hazardous during the evening commute as snow transitions to freezing rain, followed by accumulating snow overnight and into Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across much of eastern New York, western Massachusetts, northwestern Connecticut, and southern Vermont. Snow begins this afternoon, changing to a wintry mix and freezing rain this evening, with ice accumulations approaching one-tenth of an inch in parts of the Hudson Valley, Berkshires, Litchfield Hills, and Catskills. That glaze is enough to create slick roads, bridges, and sidewalks during peak travel hours.

In areas including Albany, Schenectady, Hudson, Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Pittsfield, Torrington, and Great Barrington, snow totals remain generally under one inch, but freezing drizzle may linger into the pre-dawn hours Wednesday. Farther north and west, including Herkimer, Hamilton, Fulton counties in New York and Bennington and Windham counties in Vermont, colder air supports steadier snow. Those areas could see an additional 3 to 5 inches through Wednesday night, with advisories lasting until early Thursday.

Eastern Windham County, Vermont, including Brattleboro and Bellows Falls, is expected to pick up up to two inches of snow before daybreak Wednesday, impacting the evening commute.

Drivers are urged to slow down, avoid sudden braking, and use caution on untreated roads. Slippery conditions are expected to persist into Wednesday morning, and additional advisories could be issued if freezing drizzle or snow bands linger longer than expected.
