Ogdensburg, NY – Parts of St. Lawrence County are under a Winter Weather Advisory tonight as a lake effect snow band is expected to intensify and drop several inches of snow through Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Burlington.

The advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. this evening through 4 p.m. Thursday and covers southeastern and southwestern portions of St. Lawrence County, including Gouverneur, South Colton, Star Lake, Potsdam, and Ogdensburg.

According to the NWS, total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches are expected, with the heaviest snowfall likely near U.S. Route 11 and areas south of New York Route 58. Forecasters warn that snow-covered roads, slippery pavement, and areas of blowing and drifting snow will significantly reduce visibility, particularly during the Thursday morning commute.

Travel conditions may change rapidly within short distances as lake effect bands shift. Some areas may experience heavy snow and whiteout-like visibility, while locations just a few miles away may be nearly dry.

Additional scattered snow showers are expected outside the primary band.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and prepare for sudden reductions in visibility. The NWS advises monitoring updated forecasts and checking 511ny.org for current road conditions across northern New York.
