Albany, N.Y. – A frost advisory is in effect across much of eastern New York and western New England tonight as temperatures fall to near freezing. The National Weather Service in Albany warns that lows could dip to around 32 degrees between 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, creating conditions favorable for frost formation.
According to the NWS, the advisory covers Litchfield County in Connecticut, the Capital District, the Mid-Hudson Valley, and parts of the southern Taconics in New York. Residents in areas such as Albany, Schenectady, and Dutchess counties are urged to protect sensitive outdoor vegetation, as unprotected plants may be killed by the cold.
Homeowners are advised to cover tender plants or bring them indoors before nightfall. Farmers and gardeners should also consider using frost cloths or other coverings to preserve late-season crops. While the air will warm again by mid-morning Saturday, another round of chilly nights could return early next week if clear skies persist.
Frost advisories remain in effect through 9 a.m. Saturday, with updates expected from the National Weather Service in Albany.
