ALBANY, N.Y. — A crisp blast of fall air is sweeping into eastern New York, setting the stage for the first widespread frost advisory of the season. The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Frost Advisory for much of the Capital Region, including Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and the Hudson Valley, effective from 11 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday.

Temperatures are expected to dip between 33°F and 36°F, allowing frost to form in sheltered and low-lying areas. Sensitive vegetation and garden plants could be damaged or killed if left uncovered. Residents should bring potted plants indoors or cover them with cloths or light tarps before dusk.

The coldest readings will occur along Interstate 87 and Route 9 corridors, stretching from Rensselaer County north toward Saratoga and south into Dutchess County. Skies remain clear under high pressure, creating ideal conditions for radiational cooling.

Friday begins chilly but bright, with sunshine pushing afternoon highs to around 58°F. By Saturday, temperatures rebound into the low 60s, offering ideal conditions for fall foliage drives and pumpkin patch visits.

Sunday brings a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 60s before showers arrive late Sunday night into Monday. Next week stays seasonably mild, though another cool push could arrive midweek.

Five-Day Outlook for Albany, NY:
