Albany, NY – A cold weather advisory is in effect for much of upstate New York and western Massachusetts from midnight Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday, with wind chills plummeting as low as -25°F.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albany, dangerously cold wind chills will impact Northern Berkshire County in Massachusetts, as well as multiple counties in New York, including Northern Warren, Schoharie, Western Albany, Western Greene, and others. A separate advisory from NWS Binghamton and Burlington extends coverage to parts of the Adirondacks, the Mohawk Valley, and the North Country.

Residents are urged to take precautions, as frostbite can occur on exposed skin within 30 minutes in these conditions. The NWS warns that hypothermia is also a risk for those not properly dressed. Officials recommend layering clothing, covering exposed skin, and avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure.

The coldest temperatures are expected early Sunday morning, with conditions improving by late morning. Those traveling or working outdoors should exercise caution and ensure they have appropriate winter gear.

For updates and safety recommendations, residents should monitor local weather reports and follow guidance from emergency management officials.
