Albany, N.Y. – Temperatures are expected to dip near freezing overnight, with frost forming across parts of Upstate New York by early Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued Frost Advisories for Northern Herkimer, Hamilton, Schoharie, Western Albany, Western Greene, and Western Ulster counties between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, overnight lows ranging from 33 to 36 degrees could cause frost to develop in valleys and sheltered areas. Sensitive outdoor plants may be damaged or killed if left uncovered.

Communities most at risk include Old Forge, Long Lake, Cobleskill, Hunter, Ellenville, and Woodstock. Home gardeners and local farms are urged to take action tonight by covering plants, moving potted flowers indoors, or using frost cloths to protect tender vegetation.

The advisory signals the first widespread frost threat of the season, signaling an early taste of autumn for the Adirondacks, Schoharie Valley, and foothills of the Catskills.

Frost advisories are set to expire after 8 a.m. Tuesday, though colder nights remain possible as the week progresses. Residents should stay alert for additional advisories later this week.
