State College, PA – The National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center reports that beneficial rain has fallen across the region over the past 24 hours, with totals between 0.1 and 0.75 inches, and more rain is expected Sunday before colder air moves in early next week.
According to the NWS, the highest rainfall amounts were observed in central Pennsylvania, where up to 0.75 inches accumulated as of Saturday morning. Another round of light to moderate rainfall is forecast Sunday, bringing total 72-hour precipitation to around 0.25–0.75 inches across much of the Mid-Atlantic.
The rainfall is described as beneficial following recent dry conditions, and no river flooding is expected with this system. However, temperatures will turn much colder early next week, setting the stage for a potential rain-to-snow transition, especially in the Upper Susquehanna basin and higher terrain of Pennsylvania and New York.
Forecasters advise residents to monitor early-week forecasts for possible snow development and to be prepared for colder temperatures by Monday night.
