Marquette, Michigan – Roads across the Upper Peninsula are turning slick early this morning as a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain continues to spread across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, wintry precipitation will persist through 8 a.m. Friday, with ice accumulation between 0.10 and 0.50 inches possible in parts of the central and eastern Upper Peninsula. Snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are also expected in some areas, especially west of Marquette.

Communities including Marquette, Escanaba, Munising, and Sault Ste. Marie could see hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute, with icy roads, reduced visibility, and slick bridges. The combination of ice and snow may also weigh down tree limbs, leading to isolated power outages.

Conditions may briefly improve Friday afternoon, but another round of wintry weather is expected to arrive Friday night and continue through the weekend, bringing additional snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

Residents should slow down on roadways, allow extra travel time, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Additional advisories or warnings are likely as the next system approaches.
