Marquette, MI — A fall-like day is set to sweep across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Saturday, bringing cooler temperatures and potentially dangerous conditions for beachgoers. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette has issued a high swim risk for Lake Superior beaches in Marquette and Alger counties. Life-threatening waves and strong currents are expected, particularly at Middle Bay near Presque Isle, Little Presque Isle, McCarty’s Cove, Au Train Bay, and various locations within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
According to the NWS, beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and avoid areas near piers and break walls. The forecast for Saturday predicts mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and breezy northwest winds. High temperatures will range from 60 to 69 degrees, with the warmest conditions in south-central Upper Peninsula.
Scattered showers are expected to continue through Sunday morning, primarily in the eastern U.P. However, warmer and drier weather is anticipated to arrive by Monday, persisting into the first half of the upcoming week. Residents and visitors alike are advised to take precautions if venturing near Lake Superior’s shores this weekend.
