Marquette, Michigan – Residents across Upper Michigan should prepare for a stretch of cooler-than-normal weather and nearly daily chances for rain as an unsettled pattern settles over the region through at least Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, light rain showers will continue moving southeast out of the Upper Peninsula Sunday night while gusty winds gradually diminish. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the lower 40s inland, with somewhat milder temperatures near the Great Lakes shorelines.

Monday brings the first opportunity for thunderstorms this week as scattered showers develop during the afternoon and evening. High temperatures are forecast to range from 67 to 74 degrees across Marquette, Escanaba, Iron Mountain, Houghton and Munising. While thunderstorms are possible, forecasters indicate the risk for severe weather remains low.

The unsettled pattern continues Tuesday with additional showers and thunderstorms expected across much of the Upper Peninsula. High temperatures will remain cooler than average for mid-June, ranging from 59 to 70 degrees. Overnight lows could dip into the lower 40s in interior locations.

By Wednesday, thunderstorms become less likely, but scattered showers are expected to linger across Upper Michigan. Afternoon temperatures are forecast between 62 and 71 degrees. Thursday follows a similar pattern, with additional showers possible and highs ranging from 64 to 74 degrees.

Communities from Marquette and Munising to Ironwood, Sault Ste. Marie and Escanaba may experience periodic wet roads, reduced visibility and interruptions to outdoor activities throughout the week. The repeated rainfall could benefit lawns and gardens but may create muddy conditions on trails and campgrounds.

Residents planning outdoor work, travel or recreation should keep rain gear nearby and monitor updated forecasts. Cooler temperatures are expected to persist through the week, and additional weather statements may be issued if thunderstorm coverage increases or rainfall becomes more widespread across the Upper Peninsula.
