Marquette, Michigan – Light snow continues across much of the Upper Peninsula today, with another round of accumulating snow expected late Sunday that could lead to slick travel for the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, today will run a few degrees warmer than Friday, but cloud cover and light snow will linger across most of the U.P. Lingering lake effect snow may continue into tonight, with generally minor accumulations as temperatures hold in the teens and lower 20s.

Conditions begin to change Sunday night as a stronger system moves into the region. Light to moderate snow is expected to spread west to east, increasing the risk for snow-covered and slippery roads by early Monday. Forecast snowfall totals through Monday morning range from around 2 to 3 inches in the eastern U.P., including areas near Newberry, to 3 to 4 inches across the central U.P., with localized higher amounts near Marquette and Munising.

Western communities such as Ironwood, Houghton, and Iron River may also see several inches, especially in favored lake-enhanced areas. Snowfall rates Sunday night could be steady enough to reduce visibility at times.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead for the Monday commute, slow down on untreated roads, and allow extra travel time. Snow is expected to taper Monday morning, but additional advisories could be issued as the system approaches.
