Marquette, MI – A wintry mix is expected to spread across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula tonight and continue into Friday morning, potentially creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, snow will develop this evening across the region, with mainly snow expected in the far north and east. Areas farther south and central portions of the Upper Peninsula are forecast to transition to a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, while locations closer to the Michigan–Wisconsin state line may see primarily freezing rain.

Forecast graphics indicate snowfall amounts generally ranging from 1 to 4 inches across much of the central and eastern U.P., with locally higher totals of 4 to 7 inches possible near parts of the eastern Lake Superior shoreline. Ice accumulation of up to around one-tenth of an inch is possible near the Wisconsin border.

The wintry mix is expected to end from west to east during the day Friday, with conditions gradually improving by Friday night. The National Weather Service said roads could become slippery at times, especially during overnight and early morning travel.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect tonight into Friday for the entire Upper Peninsula. Drivers are urged to use caution, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for changing road conditions.

Additional outlook graphics note that while conditions improve Friday night, slick travel may return at times over the coming days, particularly with additional chances for rain or freezing rain later Saturday.
