Marquette, MI – Widespread rain and storms tonight may bring flooding concerns across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop tonight and continue into Tuesday morning, with periods of heavy rainfall possible.

Forecasters say some storms could also produce gusty winds and small hail. Rainfall combined with ongoing snowmelt is increasing the risk of rising rivers, along with potential flooding of creeks, streams, and low-lying areas.

A Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday for the entire Upper Peninsula, as runoff and additional rainfall may worsen conditions.

Rainfall totals through Tuesday morning are expected to range around a half inch to locally higher amounts in some areas.

Conditions today will remain mostly cloudy after morning fog, with highs ranging from around 40 to 63 degrees.

Residents are advised to monitor water levels and remain alert for changing conditions, especially in flood-prone areas.

The timing of storms may impact overnight travel and early Tuesday commuters.
