La Crosse, WI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and western to southwest Wisconsin until 6 a.m. Sunday, as snow and strong winds continue to create hazardous travel conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, snow totals are expected to reach between 2 and 5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Winds are forecast to gust up to 35 mph, leading to blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility, particularly west of the Mississippi River, where near-blizzard conditions may develop late Saturday night.

Communities affected include La Crosse, Winona, Rochester, Decorah, Prairie du Chien, and Platteville, where snow-covered roads and low visibility will make travel very difficult through the overnight hours.

Officials urge residents to delay all unnecessary travel and prepare for potentially life-threatening driving conditions. Those who must be on the road are encouraged to keep an emergency kit — including food, water, blankets, and a flashlight — in their vehicle.

Travelers can find the latest road conditions by visiting 511ia.org, 511mn.org, or 511wi.gov depending on their state.
