Minneapolis, MN – Thunderstorms threaten the Twin Cities through Thursday morning, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and possible travel delays for morning commuters. Unsettled weather continues as repeated rounds of showers and storms move through the region before a drier, warmer pattern returns to end the week.

According to the National Weather Service, the highest chance for strong thunderstorms arrives late Wednesday night and continues into Thursday morning, especially between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. South winds up to 15 mph may accompany stronger cells, with brief downpours and localized ponding possible on area roads. While most rainfall totals will stay under a tenth of an inch, isolated storms could drop heavier amounts, mainly south of I-94. Showers taper off by midday Thursday as skies begin to clear.

Temperatures rise sharply Thursday and Friday, topping out near 92°F with humidity climbing. By Friday afternoon, the threat for rain returns briefly before mostly sunny, hot weather settles in for the weekend. Highs will approach 87°F Saturday, but another chance for storms could develop Saturday night into Sunday.

Drivers should allow extra time for Thursday’s commute, watch for slick spots, and stay alert to possible weather advisories. More thunderstorm chances are possible over the weekend, with the next update expected Friday morning.
