MINNEAPOLIS–ST. PAUL, MN – Dawn breaks over the Mississippi Valley with a streak of orange against a cool, steady breeze. Monday begins mild across the Twin Cities, but change is already on the way. A storm system brewing across the Plains is expected to spread rain into southern Minnesota by Tuesday morning — marking one of the last mild, wet pushes before a cooler pattern settles in.
The National Weather Service in Chanhassen reports that gusty south winds up to 30 mph will develop today, drawing in slightly warmer air. Highs reach near 60°F before clouds thicken late this afternoon. Rain chances rise sharply after sunset, becoming widespread Tuesday morning as a cold front moves through.
Commuters should expect wet roads and slower travel across I-94, I-35, and surrounding metro routes through Tuesday. Rain may be steady at times, totaling up to half an inch by early Wednesday. Winds will shift north behind the front, dropping highs to the mid-50s by Wednesday and bringing a brisk, dry feel by Thursday.
From there, the Twin Cities settle into a quieter, cooler pattern just in time for Halloween week. Trick-or-treat conditions Friday evening should be dry but chilly — upper 40s under partly cloudy skies.
By Saturday, highs hover near 50°F with a few light showers possible across central Minnesota. To be fair, it’s not quite winter yet, but models hint at a chilly November ahead as colder air slides south from Canada early next week.
