Duluth, MN – Rain and possible thunderstorms are expected to return to Minnesota this weekend, with the highest chances beginning Friday evening and lasting into Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a frontal boundary will move into the Upper Midwest Friday, creating increasing rainfall chances that continue overnight into Saturday. The agency warned that thunderstorms are possible, and a few could be strong to severe.

The forecast shows rain and storm activity spreading across northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, with the greatest precipitation probabilities Friday night into early Saturday. Areas such as Duluth, International Falls, and surrounding counties are expected to see rainfall totals climb as the system lingers into the weekend.

Meteorologists note that the primary concerns are heavy rainfall and the potential for strong thunderstorms. While widespread severe weather is not certain, the setup may produce isolated storms capable of damaging winds, lightning, and localized flooding.

Residents planning outdoor activities Friday night and Saturday should stay weather aware and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Drivers should also expect reduced visibility and slick roads during periods of heavier rain.

The National Weather Service will provide updated forecasts as the system approaches.
