Twin Cities, MN – After last night’s dazzling aurora display, Minnesotans could see another round of Northern Lights tonight as a powerful solar storm continues to illuminate skies far south of the Arctic Circle. The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says skies will stay mostly clear and mild — perfect conditions for another potential light show.
The ongoing G3-level geomagnetic storm, driven by recent solar eruptions, has already produced brilliant auroras visible from Texas to Washington State. Tonight (Wednesday night), visibility may once again extend across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas, with the best chance in rural and northern areas away from city light.
Forecasters call for mostly sunny skies today with highs in the 50s to near 60°F, dipping into the 30s overnight. Thursday and Friday will stay warm and breezy, with highs reaching the 60s and even upper 60s in southwest Minnesota — well above seasonal averages.
For the best aurora viewing, look north after sunset and avoid streetlights or urban glare. Smartphone cameras can often detect faint aurora colors even if they appear subtle to the eye.
If skies remain clear, tonight could mark another opportunity for Minnesotans to capture the Aurora Borealis before clouds return this weekend.
