A stretch of volatile spring weather is impacting South Dakota and Minnesota, with high winds expected today and the potential for severe storms later this week. Residents should prepare for dangerous travel conditions due to strong gusts and be aware of rapidly changing weather patterns.

According to the National Weather Service, a High Wind Warning is in effect for portions of Minnesota and North Dakota until 10 p.m. Monday, with gusts up to 60 mph. These strong winds could make driving hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles. In South Dakota, elevated fire danger is a concern as warm temperatures, low humidity, and breezy conditions create ideal conditions for wildfires.

Looking ahead, a large storm system is expected to enter the region by Friday, bringing thunderstorms, high winds, and potential snowfall. Forecast models remain uncertain, but precipitation chances increase heading into the weekend.

The five-day forecast for Sioux Falls and East Grand Forks includes:

• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, highs in the 40s-50s. Winds calming.

• Wednesday: Partly cloudy, highs in the 60s-70s.

• Thursday: Mostly sunny, highs near 70°F.

• Friday: Rain and thunderstorms, highs in the 50s-60s.

• Saturday: Snow possible, much colder with highs in the 20s-30s.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and be prepared for shifting conditions as the storm approaches.
