La Crosse, Wisconsin – Drivers across the Upper Midwest are facing slick travel conditions overnight as light snow spreads across parts of northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and western Wisconsin, creating pockets of hazardous roads before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, light snow will continue moving through the region through about 4 a.m., with snowfall amounts ranging from a trace to around a half-inch. While totals are minor, the light accumulation is enough to make untreated roads slippery, especially on bridges, overpasses, and secondary routes.

The impacted area includes communities such as La Crosse, Winona, Rochester, Decorah, Prairie du Chien, Red Wing, and nearby rural areas. Visibility may briefly drop below two miles at times during steadier snow, particularly along corridors near Interstate 90 and Highway 61.

Road crews are monitoring conditions, but officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and use extra caution if traveling overnight or during the early morning hours. Even small amounts of snow can quickly reduce traction when road temperatures are cold.

Snow is expected to taper toward daybreak as the system exits the region. While conditions should gradually improve after sunrise, isolated slick spots may linger on untreated surfaces. Motorists are encouraged to check state 511 services for the latest road conditions before heading out.
