Duluth, MN – A dangerous mix of snow, sleet, and ice is expected to impact northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin through Sunday evening, prompting a Winter Storm Watch across several counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the watch remains in effect from Saturday evening through 7 p.m. Sunday for Pine County in Minnesota and Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, Burnett, Sawyer, and Washburn counties in Wisconsin. Snow totals could range from 2 to 7 inches depending on location, with northern Bayfield and Iron counties expecting the highest amounts. Ice accumulations may reach up to one-quarter inch, especially in Iron and Pine counties. Gusts up to 40 mph could worsen conditions.
Impacts are expected to be widespread. Slick roads, especially on bridges and overpasses, may cause treacherous travel. Ice buildup could down power lines and tree limbs, potentially leading to power outages across the region. Tribal lands including the Fond du Lac Band, Lac du Flambeau Band, Bad River Reservation, and others are also included in the alert.
Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts and limit non-essential travel. Prepare emergency kits in case of outages. For real-time road updates, visit 511mn.org in Minnesota or 511wi.gov in Wisconsin.
