Grand Forks, ND – Confidence is increasing in a broad swath of accumulating snow across eastern North Dakota and northwest to west-central Minnesota from Tuesday into Wednesday. Forecasters say winds will also strengthen on Tuesday, raising the potential for blowing snow and reduced visibility during one of the busiest holiday travel periods of the year.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a system arrives Monday night bringing rain before transitioning to snow Tuesday morning. Most forecast scenarios continue to support 2–4 inches of snow, though a few higher-end solutions show the potential for several additional inches if heavier bands develop.

Winds are expected to increase Tuesday afternoon, which may lead to pockets of blowing snow—especially in open or unsheltered areas. This could create difficult travel conditions, including slick roads and occasional reductions in visibility. Snow may continue at times into early Wednesday before gradually tapering off.

Forecast probability maps show a 40–70% chance of at least 2 inches of snow across much of eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota, with the highest odds stretching from Devils Lake to Bemidji and down toward the Fargo–Moorhead region.

With Thanksgiving travel approaching, the NWS urges residents and travelers to stay updated on forecast changes. Even modest snowfall paired with stronger winds may create hazardous driving conditions Tuesday and Wednesday.
