SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to build across the region late Sunday, with the greatest risk stretching from southwest Minnesota into northwest Iowa. Residents could see storms packing hail up to half-dollar size and wind gusts reaching 60 mph, with the strongest activity lasting through 11 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, storm chances range from 40–70% this evening, with the most likely window between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. While the tornado risk remains low, it cannot be ruled out entirely. Areas under the heaviest downpours could see an inch or more of rainfall in a short time.

Travelers on I-90 and I-29 should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility and slick roads from heavy rain. Power outages are also possible where wind gusts peak.

Residents in Sioux Falls, Worthington, and Spencer should stay weather-aware, especially during the late commute hours. The storm threat will diminish significantly after 11 p.m. as daytime heating fades.

More advisories may follow if storms intensify or expand farther east into Monday morning.
