Omaha, Nebraska – Strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep into northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa this evening, carrying the risk of 70 mph winds, localized flooding, and pockets of hail up to 1 inch in diameter.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the storms will likely arrive between 8 p.m. and midnight, with the highest risk concentrated in northeast Nebraska. Storms are tracking in from South Dakota, and while their southeastern reach remains uncertain, residents in eastern Nebraska and northwest Iowa should prepare for rapidly changing conditions.

Localized flooding is a concern, especially in low-lying areas and places that may see repeated downpours. The NWS estimates a 40–60% chance of storms in northeast Nebraska, with a 10% risk of severe weather spreading further southeast.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and stay alert as conditions can deteriorate quickly. While tornadoes are not expected, intense wind gusts and heavy rainfall could make travel dangerous and cause power outages.

Storms may redevelop over the same areas, compounding rain totals and increasing the flood risk through early Wednesday.
