Marquette, MI – Residents across Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin could see damaging wind gusts, large hail, and frequent lightning through 10 p.m. Tuesday as a line of severe thunderstorms rolls across the region.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. CDT for 13 counties in northern Wisconsin and 6 counties in Michigan’s U.P. Storms are expected to intensify through the early evening, especially along U.S. Highway 2 and near Lake Superior’s southern shorelines.
In Michigan, counties under the watch include Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Marquette, and Ontonagon. In Wisconsin, affected areas stretch from Bayfield and Ashland south to Polk and Barron counties. Winds could exceed 60–70 mph with isolated hail over 1 inch in diameter. Downed trees and power outages are possible.
