Aberdeen, SD — A powerful winter storm is set to impact parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota beginning Tuesday evening, with up to 8 inches of heavy snow expected in some areas by Wednesday, April 2.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for counties across the tri-state region, including Brown, Day, Grant, Marshall, and Roberts in South Dakota; Traverse and Big Stone in Minnesota; and Dickey, LaMoure, Logan, McIntosh, and Stutsman in North Dakota. The storm may bring 6 to 8 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph, especially in open rural areas.
Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, and roads may become snow-covered and slick, making Wednesday morning and evening commutes hazardous across affected counties. Rural highways and interstates in eastern North and South Dakota, as well as western Minnesota, may face the greatest impacts.
Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, delay non-essential travel, and prepare emergency kits with essentials such as blankets, chargers, and extra food. Snow is expected to intensify late Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday evening, with conditions gradually improving Wednesday night.
