Marquette, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Alger, Luce, and Northern Schoolcraft Counties from 7 a.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Marquette.

Forecasters say lake effect snow will bring 3 to 7 inches of accumulation to much of the region, with gusts up to 35 mph near the Lake Superior shoreline. The combination of snow and wind will lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

Communities including Munising, Grand Marais, and Newberry are expected to see the most persistent snow bands, while southwestern Alger County—including Chatham and Trenary—will likely receive 2 inches or less.

The weather service warns that conditions could change quickly within short distances due to shifting lake effect bands. Motorists should slow down, increase following distances, and remain alert for slick and snow-covered roads.

Drivers can check the latest road conditions through Michigan 511 or by visiting Michigan.gov/Drive before heading out.
