Marquette, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. EST today across much of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where snow and gusty winds continue to create slick and hazardous travel conditions this morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, snow accumulations will range from 1 to 4 inches depending on location, with 35 mph wind gusts leading to areas of blowing and drifting snow along open stretches and near Lake Superior.

The advisory covers Marquette, Alger, Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, Ontonagon, Gogebic, Luce, and Schoolcraft counties, including communities such as Marquette, Munising, Houghton, Ironwood, and Newberry. In the western and central U.P., lake effect snow bands are producing heavier bursts at times, while lighter snow continues farther south in Iron, Delta, and Menominee counties until early morning.

Roads are expected to remain snow-covered and slippery through midday, especially along U.S. 41, M-28, and M-123. Motorists are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and use caution, particularly on bridges and rural highways where conditions may change rapidly.

The snow is forecast to taper off by early afternoon, though blowing snow may linger into the evening as temperatures stay below freezing.
