Marquette, Michigan – Moderate snowfall combined with gusty winds is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across portions of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Monday, prompting multiple Winter Weather Advisories.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Luce County and northern Schoolcraft County from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Monday. Forecasters expect 1 to 4 inches of snow, mainly north of M-28, with wind gusts up to 35 mph leading to areas of blowing snow.

A separate Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Baraga County from midnight Sunday night to 10 a.m. EST Monday, replacing a previous winter storm watch. Snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are expected, along with blowing snow that may significantly reduce visibility, especially during the Monday morning commute.

The National Weather Service warns that roads may become slick and travel could be very difficult at times, particularly during periods of heavier snowfall and blowing snow. Conditions are expected to impact both the morning and evening commutes across the advisory areas.

In Baraga County, forecasters also note dangerously cold wind chills ranging from -15°F to -25°F Monday morning, increasing the risk of frostbite for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution, especially on rural highways and exposed roadways where snow can drift quickly. Visibility may change rapidly over short distances as snow bands move through.

Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service in case advisory areas or timing are adjusted.
