Marquette, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Keweenaw and Northern Houghton Counties as lake effect snow and strong winds are expected to impact the Upper Peninsula from 7 p.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Marquette.
Forecasters predict 2 to 4 inches of accumulation, with locally higher totals up to 6 inches possible in persistent snow bands. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially near open stretches and along the Lake Superior shoreline.
Communities including Copper Harbor, Hancock, and Houghton may see slippery road conditions through the weekend. Drivers should use caution, particularly during the Monday morning commute, when snow and gusty winds may still affect travel.
The National Weather Service warns that lake effect snow can vary sharply, with heavy snow just miles away from clear conditions. Motorists are urged to monitor weather updates and check road reports by dialing 511 before traveling.
