Marquette, Michigan – Wildfire smoke is once again blanketing the Upper Peninsula, reducing visibility and triggering air quality concerns across Marquette and surrounding communities. Mostly dry conditions will prevail, but the skies will remain hazy, with the most significant impacts expected through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, isolated showers or a stray storm can’t be ruled out early this week, but the primary story is the persistent smoke and haze drifting in from regional wildfires. Daytime highs will range from the upper 70s to near 90 by midweek, with air quality dropping to moderate or even unhealthy for sensitive groups at times, especially during the afternoons and evenings.

Residents in Negaunee, Ishpeming, Munising, and along the Lake Superior shoreline may notice reduced visibility and should limit prolonged outdoor activity, particularly young children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. The Michigan Department of Health recommends keeping windows closed and using air conditioning or air purifiers if available. Motorists should be alert for changing visibility on U.S. 41 and M-28.

The warming trend will continue into Wednesday, with less haze expected by midweek but lingering health concerns until winds shift. More updates are expected if smoke levels rise or new advisories are issued.
