MARQUETTE, Mich. – Dense morning fog gave way to sunshine across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Saturday, but forecasters say a quick shift is coming with showers possible by Sunday night. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the mid-80s before a breezy southwest wind picks up later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, winds could gust up to 30 mph by Saturday evening, making for choppy conditions along Lake Superior. Sunday will stay warm and breezy, with highs near 78°F before a line of showers and isolated thunderstorms develops by nightfall. Rain chances stand at 50 percent, tapering off early Monday as cooler air moves in.

Drivers along U.S. 41 and M-28 should expect reduced visibility early Saturday from fog and gusty crosswinds through the weekend. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and keep an eye on rapidly changing lake conditions.

The start of next week turns cooler and calmer, with partly sunny skies Monday and highs near 60°F. Sunshine returns by Tuesday, holding through midweek.
