Marquette, Mich. – A calm evening across the Upper Peninsula will give way to a soggy midweek as showers and thunderstorms move in by Wednesday. Overnight, temperatures will dip into the low to mid-40s for interior counties, while lakeshore communities remain milder in the upper 40s to mid-50s.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, skies will gradually cloud over tonight before a storm system arrives Wednesday. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to spread across much of northern Michigan during the day, bringing warmer air with highs climbing into the lower to mid-70s.

Communities from Marquette to Escanaba could see periods of heavy rain and gusty winds. The wet weather may cause slick roads along U.S. 41 and M-28, while lakeshore towns should be prepared for scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time during downpours and keep storm safety in mind. Power outages cannot be ruled out if stronger storms develop.

Showers and thunderstorms remain possible through Wednesday night, with conditions drying out later in the week.
