MARQUETTE, Mich. – After a bright and mild Thursday, Upper Michigan will shift back into a wet pattern tonight as a new storm system moves in from the west, bringing widespread rainfall and cooler air.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, rain will develop late Thursday evening, becoming steady and at times moderate overnight. Lows will dip into the low to mid-40s, with the coldest readings in the interior west. Showers are expected to persist through Friday and may linger into Saturday across eastern Upper Michigan.
NWS forecasters noted that rainfall totals could reach up to an inch in spots, particularly along and east of U.S. 41. Roads may become slick for Friday morning commuters, and reduced visibility could slow traffic on M-28 and U.S. 2. Those attending Friday night football games or weekend outdoor events should plan for damp conditions and cooler air.
Daytime highs will fall slightly behind the front, hovering in the upper 50s to mid-60s Friday before settling in the upper 50s by Saturday. The rain will gradually taper from west to east late Saturday, though lingering drizzle and clouds may persist along the Lake Superior shoreline.
Residents are encouraged to keep umbrellas handy, check for updated travel advisories, and allow extra time for evening commutes through Saturday morning.
