MARQUETTE, Mich. – A brisk, windy start to Friday will give way to calmer skies and a taste of classic Upper Peninsula fall warmth by Sunday. After a damp and chilly stretch, residents can expect sunshine to return just in time for outdoor plans and leaf-peeping trips along U.S. 41 and M-28.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, strong southwest winds up to 30 mph will continue through midday Friday, carrying scattered showers and falling leaves across open highways. Travelers are urged to secure loose decorations, check wiper blades, and allow extra time for the morning commute. The breezy pattern will fade late Friday as drier air moves in from the northwest.

Saturday brings a noticeable rebound—partly sunny skies, lighter winds, and highs near 57 °F will encourage fall events from Presque Isle Park to downtown farmers markets. By Sunday, temperatures surge into the lower 60s under mostly sunny skies, ideal for pumpkin patches and final lawn clean-ups before next week’s chill.

Forecasters expect a brief dip again early next week as another cold front slides off Lake Superior, possibly producing isolated showers Monday. Early indications suggest seasonable October weather continuing through midweek, with daytime highs in the 50s and mild nights in the 40s.

Residents are advised to keep fall gear handy, prepare for quick changes near the lakeshore, and plan ahead for cooler mornings as mid-October settles in.
