MARQUETTE, Mich. – Residents across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are urged to take heat precautions as warm, humid air grips the region through Sunday, with strong to severe thunderstorms possible Saturday morning, especially in the west.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, highs will reach the upper 80s to low 90s inland, with slightly cooler readings near the Great Lakes. Friday stays mostly dry except for scattered afternoon storms, but the atmosphere turns more unstable overnight, bringing the chance for early Saturday storms capable of damaging winds and heavy rain.

Storm chances continue Sunday, with activity shifting east. Areas near Lake Michigan and Lake Superior will remain cooler, but humidity will keep conditions uncomfortable. Emergency officials advise residents to avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and be prepared for changing weather.

Travelers should monitor for rapidly developing storms, especially Saturday morning along U.S. 2 and M-28 corridors in the western U.P. Lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours could impact outdoor plans and road safety.

Thunderstorm chances linger into Sunday evening before slightly cooler and drier air moves in early next week.
