Marquette, Mich. – Swimmers and boaters along the Lake Superior shoreline are urged to stay cautious as hazardous beach conditions continue through Friday afternoon in Marquette County. The National Weather Service has extended warnings for strong currents and dangerous waves that could create life-threatening situations for swimmers.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect until 4 p.m. Friday. The threat includes high wave action, dangerous swimming conditions, and strong structural currents, especially near the breakwalls at Marquette’s Presque Isle and McCarty’s Cove.
Conditions are improving on land, with skies clearing and highs climbing into the 60s today and low 70s over the weekend. Winds shifting from the northeast to the south by Saturday will gradually calm the lake, but beachgoers are advised to avoid swimming until the advisory expires.
Drivers along U.S. 41 and M-28 can expect dry, sunny conditions this weekend, with no travel impacts. Outdoor activities away from the shoreline should be safe, though boaters are reminded to wear life jackets and use caution while wave action remains elevated.
Warnings remain in effect through Friday, with calmer waters expected by Saturday.
