Marquette, MI – Marquette is bracing for a significant weather event as a system moves through the region tonight, bringing snow, freezing rain, and sleet. According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, snow accumulations are expected to reach up to an inch for most areas, though the Keweenaw Peninsula and southern Central Upper Michigan may see more than two inches. The storm will transition to rain by tonight.

In addition to the precipitation, winds from the east and southeast will gust up to 45-50 mph, particularly affecting the eastern UP and Keweenaw Peninsula. These strong winds could cause hazardous conditions, especially along the coastlines, where waves could reach up to 14 feet near the Keweenaw Peninsula. This may lead to minor lakeshore flooding and beach erosion.

Weather experts advise residents to stay informed through winter weather advisories and wind warnings. The hazardous conditions will affect travel, and drivers are urged to exercise caution. There are no weather spotter reports needed at this time, but continued monitoring is advised. No significant hazardous weather is expected from Thursday through Tuesday.
