Marquette, MI – A calm start to the week on the shores of Lake Superior won’t last long. By midweek, a wet and windy system will sweep across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula — likely delivering the first rain-to-snow transition of the season by Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, today remains quiet with increasing clouds and a high near 52°F. Winds will pick up late, hinting at the stronger change ahead. Rain develops late Tuesday night, becoming steady by Wednesday morning. Forecasters expect gusts near 25 mph and up to a quarter inch of rainfall across the region. The damp stretch will make roads along U.S. 41 and M-28 slick and visibility low for commuters and truck traffic through midweek.
By Thursday, conditions briefly ease before another stronger front pushes in Friday, bringing a 90% chance of rain that could mix with snow by evening. Temperatures will fall into the 20s Friday night, cold enough for the season’s first measurable flakes across higher terrain west of Marquette. Saturday looks colder still, with highs struggling to reach the upper 30s and lingering snow showers possible through the day.
Residents should prepare now for the first true taste of November weather — colder, wetter, and windier than the last few weeks. It’s a good window to test snow gear, check wiper fluid, and plan accordingly for weekend Veterans Day events that may see chilly, slushy conditions.
After all, in the Upper Peninsula, winter rarely waits for Thanksgiving to make its entrance.
