Marquette, Mich. – Thick fog is expected to blanket parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula overnight, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile and creating hazardous travel conditions into early Friday. Drivers may face difficult commutes across Marquette, Houghton, and Iron Counties, especially along U.S. 41 and M-28.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, patchy dense fog will linger through the early morning hours Friday before lifting by midday. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for travel.

By Friday evening, conditions will shift as showers and thunderstorms move into the region. Storm chances increase late Friday night into early Saturday, with rainfall totals ranging between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Some storms could bring heavier downpours, especially in central and western counties.

Escanaba, Iron Mountain, and Houghton could see visibility challenges tonight, while storm activity may affect outdoor events and travel across Marquette and Copper Harbor by the weekend.

Hazardous weather alerts remain in effect, with the threat of storms continuing through early Saturday before drier conditions return Sunday.
