Marquette, MI – Thunderstorms and lingering haze could disrupt outdoor plans Tuesday across Upper Michigan, but calmer, sunny weather is on the way by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, scattered storms are possible after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the heaviest activity expected between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Widespread haze will follow into the evening, driven by wildfire smoke from western Canada. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has extended its Air Quality Advisory through noon Tuesday, warning that fine particulate levels will remain unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Counties under the advisory include Marquette, Alger, Delta, Luce, and Gogebic, among others. Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially those with heart or lung conditions. Closing windows and using air filters overnight can help reduce smoke indoors.

Conditions improve sharply Wednesday as high pressure brings mostly sunny skies, highs in the upper 60s, and calmer winds — making it the pick day of the week. Another warm-up begins Friday, with highs climbing into the 80s before a weekend shower chance.
